What’s Important
My priorities as a candidate for local council are:
-
SHOPPING VILLAGES REVITALISATION
When local businesses flourish, the whole community benefits. By making local shopping areas appealing, well-designed, and well-maintained, we create spaces where our community can feel a sense of pride. We need to create shopping areas in Edithvale and Chelsea Heights with consideration for the people who use them, ensuring they are accessible, safe, and inviting for everyone. I am here to continue advocating for the best solutions for everyone in the community, creating vibrant shopping villages that locals want to visit to support local businesses to thrive.
-
PLAYGROUNDS & YOUTH ACTIVITY SPACES
Every child in Sandpiper should have the opportunity to walk to a nearby playground within 10 minutes. Currently, there is a significant shortfall in playgrounds in the southern areas of Edithvale, with only 70% of residents within walking distance of one. We also need more play spaces for older children, such as bike/BMX jump facilities near Long Beach trail. This gap affects social unity and inclusion, as well as limiting free spaces for children to stay healthy, active, and connected.
-
STORMWATER & INFRASTRUCTURE
It’s crucial to invest in stormwater infrastructure for the Sandpiper ward, as our communities are situated around the Edithvale Wetlands. As urban development and climate change pose challenges, protecting this natural ecosystem is essential. Enhancing these assets through strategic infrastructure investments will help to safeguard our community against future risks, ensuring a resilient environment that benefits both current and future generations.
-
COMMUNITY CONNECTIVITY
Enhancing pedestrian safety and promoting active transportation is crucial for connecting our suburbs with safe, well-maintained footpaths, pedestrian crossings, and cycling paths. These improvements create environments where residents feel confident walking and cycling, reducing dependency on cars, supporting healthier lifestyles, and fostering community engagement. This approach contributes to a safer, more connected neighbourhood for all.
-
OPEN SPACES
Keeping our public spaces looking good is key to making our neighbourhoods vibrant and enjoyable places to live. When we take care of our environment, it shows that we value where we live and want everyone to feel proud of their community. Clean, well-maintained spaces encourage people to spend time outdoors, connect with neighbours, and feel safe. It's about creating places that are welcoming and easy to enjoy, making our everyday surroundings more pleasant and enhancing our sense of community spirit.
-
TRANSPARENT & COMMUNITY LED
I'm committed to advocating for a council that's transparent and accessible to everyone in our community. It's about listening openly, leading with integrity, kindness, and fairness, and ensuring our council reflects the diverse needs of our neighbours and businesses. By fostering open communication and inclusive decision-making, we can build trust and collaboration, making sure every voice is valued. Together, we'll create a local government that's responsive, respectful, and dedicated to making our community a better place for all.
